BEATTY’S BEST: Locals’ Summer * Wrightsville Beach
There’s a special kind of magic at Wrightsville Beach once the kids are back in school and the summer crowds have headed home. The pace slows, the beach feels a little more like our own, and it’s the perfect time to enjoy a meal outdoors. Here are a few of our favorite spots for al fresco dining and soaking up the local coastal atmosphere:
Shark Bar – Just steps from the beach, Shark Bar is a go-to for fresh seafood, creative cocktails, and a laid-back atmosphere. For live music and a nightcap, the nearby Palm Room is a natural next stop.
South Beach Grill – A local favorite overlooking Banks Channel, with a covered patio, Southern-inspired dishes, and beautiful waterfront views.
Lighthouse Beer & Wine – A relaxed spot to gather with friends and enjoy the beach atmosphere. Pick up a pizza from Mellow Mushroom and make an easygoing evening of it.
Poe’s Tavern – A fun, casual choice for creative burgers, tacos, and a patio meal after a walk on the beach.
The Bridge Tender – Set along the Intracoastal Waterway, its outdoor patio is a wonderful place to enjoy fresh seafood, watch boats pass, and take in the waterfront views.
Dockside – A classic waterside hangout with a relaxed deck, seafood favorites, and plenty of coastal charm—perfect for a laid-back lunch or dinner by the water.
With fewer crowds and plenty of sunshine left to enjoy, this is one of our favorite times to linger over a meal, catch up with friends, and appreciate the Wrightsville Beach lifestyle.
